Wrestling Starts when brackets are built: Approximately 9:30-10 am,
Jr High Tournament will be run in the same venue as the HS Varsity Tournament.
Team Entry Fee:
$175 per team (17 wrestlers)
Extra wrestlers: $15 per wrestler

Times: 8AM-9AM WEIGH-INS- MADISON BRACKET TO MAXIMIZE MATCHES. 10am wrestling starts.

Age Groups: Kinder-We will create brackets according to the wrestlers who are present.  E1 1-2 Grade.  E2 3-5 Grade.  JH 6-8 Grade.  HS 9-12.

HS wrestlers are allowed to wrestle in this tournament even though the season has started. You will not be able to wrestle in your school owned equipment. You can wrestle in gear with a school logo if it belongs to you. You can wrestle in shirts and shorts if you don’t have a singlet. This is an unattached tournament. HS wrestlers will not be allowed to have a coach on their corner. THERE WILL BE NO COACHING ON THE CORNER FOR ALL HS ATHLETES. ALL HS ATHLETE'S WILL ENTER THE TOURNAMENT UNATTACHED.

If you love wrestling and want to watch some of the best wrestlers in AZ take on some of the best wrestlers from around the country, please come watch the Wild West Wrestling Showcase at Valiant College Preparatory this Saturday October, 29th 2022. There is a youth clinic with Forest Molinari and Zahid Valencia starting at 5 p.m. Intros start at 6 p.m. and wrestling starts at 6:15 p.m. and should end around 8:15 p.m. There will be a post match social at Handlebar Tempe for those who are interested starting at 9 p.m.

Tickets to the youth clinic are free and general admission is $20. This is going to be a fun family friendly night, please come. We hope to see you there.

"At the lightest weights, we'll see a Who's Number One clash between the top-ranked 106-pounder, Christian Castillo, and the top-ranked 113-pounder, Anthony Knox. After his silver medal performance at the U17 World Championships, Castillo has decided to take a match up at 113 lbs against Fargo and Super 32 champ Knox.

Since his Fargo finals run and Super 32 podium finishes in 2021, Christian Castillo has caught fire. The man with the best mullet in wrestling ran the 48 kg gauntlet at the U17 World Team Trials and then followed that up with a run to the World finals. Castillo's results in Rome were impressive, but his manor of victory had wrestling fans' jaws on the floor. In the quarterfinals, Castillo gave up a lead late and had a restart with only 5 seconds remaining. He jumped over his Iranian opponent in dramatic fashion to secure one of the most electric wins of USA's team title performance.

Anthony Knox is no stranger to Who's Number One. A year ago, he defeated U17 World champ Luke Lilledahl. Since that time, he won titles at Super 32 and the New Jersey State Championships. In July, he moved up to 120 lbs to test the waters in a loaded Fargo bracket where he ultimately finished second to Marcus Blaze. Now he's heading back to 113 lbs.

Knox and Castillo are two of the most intriguing prospects in the class of 2025, and now they'll meet in a #1 vs #1 matchup on September 9 in Ann Arbor, Michigan."

"Cadence Diduch and Everest Leydecker didn’t wrestle at 16U Nationals in Fargo but that will change when they meet at Who’s Number One in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on September 9. 

Didich (Freeport, Illinois) won 16U Nationals in 2021 and was second this year at 127 pounds, but moved down to 122 pounds and won the Junior division. She enters her junior year at Freeport High School after winning a state title at the inaugural Illinois girls' state championships.

This is the second time Diduch will be on a Who’s Number One card after posting a 9-4 win over Zao Estrada last year. 

Leydecker (Ahwatukee, Arizona) had a breakout year that included a 122-pound title at 16U Nationals in Fargo and a 16U National championship. She is entering her freshman year at Desert Vista High School."

U17 World Championships Freestyle Final.

"1st period: Things start off with some physical wrestling as Baghirov locks up a tight front headlock and tries to roll Castillo through. Castillo doesn't go and they're back to neutral. Baghirov gets put on the activity clock first. Castillo slowing him down with a two-on-one that's been working for him this tournament. 30 seconds go by and Castillo gets a point. Double leg for Baghirov but Castillo manages to sprawl in time to hold him at bay. We go to the break still 1-0. 

2nd period: Castillo taking ground in collar ties but is still waiting for the right time for a level change. Now Castillo goes on the clock with 1:18 left in the match. More good defense for Castillo as Baghirov continues to attack. Activity clock expires so it's 1-1 but Baghirov leads on criteria. 30 seconds to go. Castillo needs a score. 20 seconds. Baghirov in on Castillo's legs. Castillo goes for a gator bacon. It doesn't land, four points for Baghirov with just seconds to go. Castillo steps over for some last-minute dramatics but can't secure a fall and he loses 5-3 to Azerbaijan. A superb tournament for Castillo comes to an end with a silver medal."

U17 World Championships Freestyle Semifinal.

"1st period: Castillo working from a two-on-one, drives Galbouraev to the edge. Rassoul pivots and forces Castillo's feet to the boundary but a well-timed hip thrust sends France to the mat and Rassoul's head hits out of bounds first to give Castillo the first point of the match. Or does it? France calls for a review. Challenge lost, Castillo leads 2-0 in the first minute still. Back to the two-on-one. An ankle pick on the edge gives Castillo another step out. Now Galbouraev tries some offense but Castillo down blocks and shoves Rassoul out of bounds for another point. 4-0 lead at the break. 

2nd period: All one-pointers for Castillo but a very nice lead as the final 2 minutes start ticking away. A shot by Galbouraev and it looked like Castillo timed his defense correctly but the refs thought differently so Galbouraev gets on the board, 4-1. Castillo with a low attack, Rassoul tries to kick away but Castillo holds fast and collects two more. Transition to a lace and Castillo gets two turns. 10-1 with a minute to go. Galbouraev desperation shot, Castillo doubles him to his back and Galbouraev gives up the fall. He was going to get teched either way. Great win by Castillo as he advances to the gold medal match! "
